Finding Extra Money to Pay it Off

Debt solutions can be challenging. One of the most challenging parts of debt solutions is coming up with enough money to pay off debt. Especially with credit card debt, you must pay more than the minimum payment to pay off the principal balance. When you already have trouble getting by, it is hard to find the money to make extra payments.

Finding extra money to pay off debt is hard, but it is a debt solutions strategy that can be done. The following debt solutions tips will help you know where to look to find money to get that debt paid off for good.
  • Your Savings Account - You may cringe at the thought of emptying out your savings account to pay your credit card debt, but this debt solutions strategy just may make sense. If you are paying twenty-one percent interest on your credit card, but are only earning three percent on your savings account, it is a no-brainer. It makes sense to use your savings to pay off your credit card debt. Once it is paid, you can begin saving again. Just do not start using those credit cards again!

  • Bonuses - Do you receive bonuses at work? If so, do not even think about doing anything but paying your credit card debt with that money. Put the debt solutions thought in your mind even before you receive the bonus and do not be tempted to spend it.

  • Work Overtime - If you are allowed to work overtime at your job, do it. Pay the extra money you earn on your credit card debt. Overtime money is money you do not ordinarily receive, so in this debt solutions strategy you should not miss it if you use it to pay your credit card debt.

  • Ask for a Raise - If you think you are due a raise, ask for it. Use the extra money to pay your credit card debt.

  • Get a Part-Time Job - If you cannot work overtime at your full-time job, consider getting a part-time job as a debt solutions strategy. You only have to keep the job as long as it takes you to make the money to pay your credit card debt. Use that as an incentive to pay off your debt as soon as possible.

  • Sell Your Stuff - Have a garage sale or list some of the things you no longer want or can live without on eBay. You can also sell your used books on Amazon.com. You might just have something collectible that could pay off the entire amount of your debt with this debt solutions strategy.

  • Use Your Tax Refund - If you get a tax refund, pay down your debt with it. If you get a lot of money back, consider adjusting your withholding so you do not have as much tax taken out of your paychecks. This will leave you with some extra money each month to pay your debt.

  • Stop Spending Money - Stop eating out - go to the grocery store. Stop going to movies - watch television at home. Stop buying new clothes every week - wear what you have. In short, stop spending money on things you do not really need.
